Descriminationn Against Irish-American Immigrants and Native Americans Racism is a problem with roots reaching as far back as biblical times, and it is questionable as to whether or not racial discrimination will ever vanish. Many different groups of people have been subject to racism over time. Two historical examples of people who were discriminated against because of their nationality are Native Americans and Irish-American immigrants. Although the situations they faced are not quite identical, they have an abundance of similarities. After the triumph at Horse Shoe Bend, Jackson told his troops: The fiends of the Tallapoosa will no longer murder our women and children, or disturb the quiet of our borders . . . . They have disappeared from the face of the Earth. In their places a new generation will arise who will know their duties better . . . . How lamentable it is that the path to peace should lead through blood, and over the carcasses of the slain!! But it is in the dispensation of that providence, which inflicts partial evil to produce general good.(Takaki, 85-86)

Since the start of my education and ability to understand, I’ve always been taught to accept others despite their differences. I’ve learned to not judge people based on appearances but their actions. For some time I never found myself having issues with those who smoked. However, once I started getting older I became more aware of all the little nuisances that came with smoking. The smoke, behaviors and health concerns began to stand out to the point where it seemed like there were flashing signs above those who smoked. Once I learned in-depth about all the hazards, I became much more aware of how much I did not like cigarettes and how I began to dislike their users. Now my everyday life is, ironically, surrounded by these users. Every day†¦show more content†¦There’s a great fear knowing that their lives can be cut down by fourteen years because of their habit. My belief is that people who do partake in smoking are doing it for leisure. I think since smoking cigarettes have been glorified as being cool and trendy that many tend to participate because â€Å"everyone else is doing it†. For me, that seems illogical and leads to the assumption that people who smoke are carless. Those who are willing to risk their lives every day over a piece of paper and toxic glue can be unreasonable. Most if not all people who chose to smoke know the risks, yet they let an addiction begin anyway. That’s where the confusion comes in. I cannot understand why someone would be willing to take those chances. It’s challenging to see the people I love the most go through such an addiction. My best friend of eleven years has recently started smoking cigarettes. I remember when we were still children pledging to say no to smoking and now years later she has become a victim of cigarettes. The thing is, she uses cigarettes as a recreational use and has no real purpose of lighting one. I can’t comprehend why she does that, and despite multiple efforts to ask her to stop, she still uses cigarettes. Since she has upped her dosage to almost finishing her pack of cigarettes a day, I can no longer find the tolerance to hang out with her. Cigarettes are taking the ones I love away from me. My group experience with picking Bollywood dance provided an opportunity to play a leadership role like courier graph the dance. Bollywood dance is the dance-form used in the Indian films. It is a mixture of numerous styles. I basically taught my other team mates this form of dance and now it affects their personal character in terms of eastern dancing. My personal experience about teaching this dance was fairly enjoyable. I had an opportunity of teaching â€Å"bhangra† to my classmates too which is a form of a regional dance in India. By doing such leadership activities, I have gained an experience in organizing a group and modeling the way. In the process of my group project, I had a vision of achieving something extraordinary by teaching the eastern dance to westerners. There was different tactics and ideas that I implemented in this process where I was also helped by my other teammates in order to make it work. I admired their vision in doing something different within my dance. We talked about two minutes and everybody agreed to do the Bollywood dance. It was a challenge for me to teach Indian dance to western people because they are grown with different culture and they have different perception in dance. My ideas and techniques were definitely questioned by others but I still had a strong motivation to make it work and I took certain amount of risk in order to make my idea work. Teaching any activity requires certain amount of confidence, faster collaboration and strength. I always had a positive attitude towards this activity and I knew there would certain challenges to make this happen but the participation of my team mates gave me more confidence. My team mates motivated themselves because they had an interest to learn about new culture. I handled their challenges and gave them the proper guidance they needed. There were people who would take initiative and put lot of effort in our group project. I was also thrilled by seeing their dedication. There was a time when we I did not know what to do or we were lacking a concept; we all worked together to solve the way out of it. I thrilled to see the dedication that my teammates had towards our team goal. In conclusion, I would say that our overall team effort was tremendous, we were doing a genuine hard work to achieve our goal, and we had morale booster, team effort and confidence within our group.
